NEWSLETTER JULY 2020
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who have been very supportive of me and my committee during the last few months whilst we all deal with the pandemic which has affected all our lives in different ways.
I know on the playing side it was difficult initially to get to grips with the booking system but everyone now appears to have mastered it. If you have any problems, Andy Windsor is more than happy to help if you give him a call.
For the time being at least, the club, in line with guidance received from England Golf, will continue to operate the tee booking system. I am aware that this can impact the way “roll ups” operate but with a little imagination and planning, there is no reason why roll up groups can’t continue and either myself or any of the committee members will be happy to discuss with rollup organizers ways in which this can be achieved.
Whilst on the subject of change, a number of Seniors Section Committee members have left Knighton Heath for various reasons. Amongst them is Mike Whittingham who served the club for some 43 years, latterly as secretary of the Seniors Section Committee. Russ Tizard, a former Seniors Captain has also resigned from the club. I have thanked them on behalf of the members for their hard work.
Rod Baggot, John Bowden and Phil Boddy have also departed.
With the above departures this leaves an opportunity for new blood to come on to committee. I have already co-opted Jeff Gee, Mike Wakeham and Richard Pearce to bridge the gap prior to our Annual General Meeting on Sept 7th. I know a lot of people have their own opinions on how the Section should be run so please think about your nominations or maybe put yourself forward!
Nomination forms are available from the Seniors notice board in the locker room (access to the locker room can be gained by using your membership card as if making a contactless payment– the PIN number is currently deactivated).
Please put this date (September 7th ) in your diary and make every effort to support your committee at this important meeting. We have taken note of all your comments about the AGM in our recent questionnaire and we hope that you will see a more professional and streamlined approach. The meeting will commence at 18.00. The reason for changing the time of the AGM from it’s usual lunchtime slot is so that those who work can also be included.
Many of you have entered the NHS heroes Texas Scramble on Monday 13th July and I will be acting as starter for this event so if you have any questions on any of the contents of this newsletter then please feel free to ask me.
COMPETITIONS and MATCHES
The club management are keen to start slowly re-introducing competitions but are following strictly the advice being given by England Golf. Please put the following date in your diary
Monday 27th July: Seniors Stableford Competition
Monday 10th August: Seniors Championship - Medal
Monday 7th September: Seniors Bowmaker
Tee bookings for these and club competitions will be through HowDidIDo.
All Seniors matches against other clubs for 2020 have been cancelled. However we have a full diary for 2021 which have already been agreed with the relative clubs.
We will be holding the Seniors Wine Scramble on Thursday 17th September when we host some 160 guests at the club, we will need a large number of stewards on the day, so please let me have your availability even if it is only for a couple of hours.
I know a lot of you have asked me about our membership numbers in recent weeks and I am happy to report that whilst 74 members have left the club, we have 74 new members, so please make sure you welcome all our new members when you meet them on the course or in the clubhouse.
Finally I would like to thank the management committee and the club manager for getting the club through this most difficult of times.
